Figures, Toronto Figures, Toronto

There’s a new restaurant in town, a comic-themed speakeasy.

It’s a first in Toronto, a restaurant that combines superheroes and nostalgic cartoons into a bar. A playground for the eyes as we gander at the gigantic neon pac man in the ceiling.

Welcome to Yorkville, Figures! The first sight is a wall pasted of comics and illustrated quotes. Shelves of assorted collectible figurines and comics that are available for sale as well! Upon entrance, you’re led through a ‘secret’ automatic door with a push of a button.

You’re going to have to picture all of this because the interior is top-secret stuff.

We were strictly prohibited from sharing as Figures would like to keep it a surprise for future guests. An interior laden with nostalgic characters ranging from Jessica Rabbit to the Hulk. The art across the walls and hung above each table is quirky and mysterious, it’ll take more than one visit to see it all.

Maleficient, J.P. Wiser’s Double Still Rye, Bruichladdich ‘Classic Laddie’, Pineapple Juicy, Lime Juicy, Cashew Orgeat, Fresh Sage, Activated Charcoal, Angostura Bitters — $19

Le Diable Blanc, J.P. Wiser’s Double Still Rye, Remy Martin VSOP, Dubbont, Benedictine, Byrrh, Fino Sherry, Creole Bitters — $19

Cocktails were divided into two menus, traditional and modern. We sat not too far from the bartender, and it was amusing the array of glasses that they used for each drink. The Maleficient is a darling fit for the character itself, and it was incredible how well the activated charcoal lent the perfect texture to keep it interesting for every sip. The price tag guaranteed a boozy drink, and it was just that.

As for the food menu, it was absolutely a sharing-style menu. We ordered a few from the divided categories of From The: Land, Sea & Earth. You can guess which dish fell in which category…

A5 Kobe, A5 Kobe Tenderloin, XO sauce, grilled Maitake mushrooms — $70

We had such a great time discovering each dish, and every single one presented a unique presentation. My absolute favourite was the beet and pasta. Beets were prepared in three ways: tartare, puree and paint. And the pasta was perfectly cooked, in a light oil sauce, with all the flavour coming from the chantrelle mushrooms and nutty cashews.

The A5 Kobe was incredible and absolutely sliced like butter. There was no need for the XO sauce here, I really just want the kobe to shine!

And for dessert? I’m not a lover of sweets, so another drink is my pick. We shared this between two, and it was just right! After dinner, the 80-seat capacity restaurant comes to life with a DJ spinning tracks until close.

This is definitely a place to visit for good cocktails, top service, a great atmosphere and overall a unique experience in Yorkville.
