Craving a nice piece of steak? The Keg would be my top choice, executed like an art piece, and perfection on your plate every single time. Consistency is key in my loyalty to a spot, and at The Keg, I love the way my diners light up upon being granted the exact flavours I’ve been boasting about. And with steak, apart from the traditional wine and steak combination, the Keg has introduced 10 cocktails to pair in celebration of the new season.

The Keg has introduced 10 cocktails and martinis including a tangy Cranberry Mojito, a spicy twist on the Dark and Stormy made with fresh ginger, a Pomegranate Royale perfect for celebrations and our new fall favourite, the Bourbon Maple Martini.

Manager (and bartender!) Stephanie showing us the ropes in creating The Keg’s new and classic cocktails

Of the Winter Cocktail Tasting evening at The Keg, we delected ourselves in three cocktails and a martini. I have had a previous visit to The Keg during their Summer Cocktail Tasting, and there were two of the four presented that I had found my favourites in, so I was certainly excited to see what other Cocktails they were showcasing for this season.

Cranberry Smash (1 oz, $7.50), Woodford Reserve bourbon, Chambord, Jagermeister, cranberry juice, simply syrup, fresh lemon juice and muddled cranberries

Apricot Whisky Sour (1 oz, $7.50), J.P. Wiser’s Deluxe whisky, apricot brandy, fresh lemon juice, apricot nextar and a splash of ginger beer

Pomegranate Royale (1 oz, $7.50), Absolut vodka, Pama pomegranate liquer, honey syrup and fresh lemon juice topped with Freizenet sparkling wine

Cranberry Mojito (2 oz, $11.50), Havana Club 3 Year Old rum, fresh lemon and lime juice, soda and muddled mint, cranberries and sugar

The thrill is that each cocktail comes at a set price, 1oz for $7.50 and the “keg sized” 2oz for $11.50, at this price point, I would highly recommend snatching up the keg-sized version!

My sole favourite trialed cocktail of this evening was the Apricot Whisky Sour, it had a delicious sweetness to it from a combination of apricot brandy and nectar, as well as a balance of crisp and sour elements of both ginger ale and fresh lemon juice to match the J.P Wiser’s Deluxe whisky. I am more appealed by the darker and richer drinks which emphasize the alcoholic element, so that’s low sweetness and floral notes for me!

And, there is a recipe card available for my favourite drink, the Apricot Whisky Sour in kind courtesy of The Keg:

Their feature drink menu highlights 10 cocktails and martinis, and you are still able to snatch up the ones I favoured most that they had been highlighting the previous season, these are:

  • Bourbon Maple Martini (2oz, $11), Woodford Reserve bourbon, maple syrup, fresh lemon and cranberry juice.
  • Honey Vanilla Manhattan (3oz, $12), Jack Daniels whisky, Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey liqueur, red and white vermouth, Galliano and house-made drunken Bing cherries.
Cranberry Smash (1oz, $7.50), Woodford Reserve bourbon, Chambord, Jagermeister, cranberry juice and simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and muddled cranberries.

They hit the nail on the head with each of these, if I had to only choose one, I would run back for the Honey Vanilla Manhattan.

These platters should most certainly be on the menu, it is the ultimate appetizer, creating an appetite while allowing diners to try the flavours, and especially the sauces that make The Keg a true classic! Here on the board we have:

Keg size Meatballs ($14), an in-house blend of pork, veal and beef, braised in tomato sauce

    • Prime rib sliders ($14), this is shaved fresh off the roast served with a nasal-clearing but addictive horseradish Dijon sauce with a beef jus to dip
    • Tuna tacos ($14), ahi tuna on warm tortillas with cabbage slaw and cilantro, served with jalapeno maple aioli
    • Three-way filet ($20), filet medallions served with a chimchurri sauce

Kansas City Striploin (18oz, $39)

The Kansas City Striploin is only available only until the end of December, and we were most certainly glad that we tried out this piece, it was both tender and flavoursome as well as had a char on each surface that served it with even more flavour.

The must order: Fried Onions, it will be well among your favourite of the evening

Billy Miners Pie ($6), Mocha ice cream on a chocolate crust with hot fudge, caramel and almonds

And last but not least, the Billy Miners Pie to end the evening… At $6, this is a no brainer, no explanation required, it will be the most addictive slice of ice cream cake that you wish you had individual orders for yourself for.

From start to finish, The Keg truly creates the atmosphere through consistent food and amazing service to take home a memorable experience. View their menu here.

Disclosure: I was invited into The Keg to taste their Winter cocktails and dine a complimentary meal. Opinions are my own.
